Botox & Fillers Q & A

What does Botox® target?

With Botox, you can eliminate, soften, or reduce the appearance of:

  • Smile lines and frown lines
  • Crow’s feet around your eyes
  • Movement lines between your eyes
  • Horizontal forehead lines

In general, Botox targets dynamic wrinkles, which are those wrinkles formed from years of muscle movement. Results typically last for three to four months at a time.

What do dermal fillers treat?

Dermal fillers target signs of aging that result from the loss of skin fullness, such as:

  • Smile lines
  • Jawline creases
  • Hollow cheeks
  • Thinning lips
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Chin creases
  • Facial asymmetry

Dr. Seman also can use dermal fillers to plump up your lips to create a pouty effect and reduce the appearance of recessed scars. Dermal fillers usually last between six and 12 months.

How are Botox and dermal fillers different?

Botox and dermal fillers are both non-invasive, injectable treatments that reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. They differ in the type of features they target and how they work. Botox targets lines and wrinkles created by muscle movement, while dermal fillers target lines and wrinkles created by the loss of facial fullness.

Developed and purified from a bacterial protein called Botulinum toxin type A, Botox temporarily stops or reduces muscle activity so that your wrinkles and lines soften. Dr. Seman administers Botox by injecting into the muscle in the area you intend to treat.

Dermal fillers are made up of gel-like materials that reduce the appearance of signs of aging by adding volume to the area. To produce this effect, Dr. Seman injects dermal fillers beneath the surface of those areas you wish to change.
